Quantity Surveyor

Bermuda. Permanent role with Thatcher Associates, the specialist construction & property desk.

Bermuda Permanent Construction & Property Posted 29 October 2026

About the role

The opportunity

Our client is an established building contractor in Bermuda, running projects across the island. They need a Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial side of their projects across the whole business, from pricing to final account. You will report to the Commercial Manager.

This job covers the full commercial cycle. You will price work from drawings, protect the contractor’s position in the contract, deal with subcontractors and their accounts, and agree the final account at the end. It suits a QS who is happy to be judged on the commercial result of each job and who would rather hold a contractual position than give it away.

What you will be doing

  • Preparing estimates from plans and specifications, producing Bills of Quantities or on screen take off packages, and running competitive tenders through to the final estimate
  • Reviewing contract documents to protect the company’s legal and contractual position, and running trade contractor procurement, letters of intent and subcontract documentation
  • Managing subcontract accounts: on account payments, variations, set off, EOT and additional cost claims, through to final account settlement
  • Producing monthly applications for payment, cash flow forecasts and a monthly cost report showing actual values, progress and the forecast position
  • Preparing EOT and additional cost claims with cause and effect evidence, and negotiating the main contract final account, working closely with the Project Managers

What you will need

  • A formal qualification in quantity surveying or construction management
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar QS role
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Surveyor under Bermuda’s Professional Surveyors Registration Act 1997
  • Experience with database estimating systems, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and scheduling software such as Microsoft Project

Experience with Sage CRE or Access COINS would be an advantage, but is not essential.

The package includes a competitive salary, depending on experience, plus per diem or subsistence and benefits
