Business Development Manager, Media Sales
London · £35,000 to £40,000 base + commission · £70,000+ realistic in year 1 · Office based, Monday to Friday
Overview
- Win new business by selling media planning and buying across TV, radio, digital, out-of-home, press and magazines.
- Buy for your clients from the UK’s leading broadcasters, publishers and out-of-home owners.
- Sell directly to business owners and senior decision makers.
- See the campaigns you sell go live on screen, on air and on the street.
About the Company
An independent, well-established media agency that plans and buys advertising for businesses across the UK. They’re channel neutral and don’t hold stock, so every campaign is built around what works for the client. They sell on results and long-term growth, which means clients come back and rebook. You’d be joining a small, high-performing sales team on a close, sociable sales floor.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for finding and winning your own clients, mostly by phone, then meeting them on Teams, at their offices or over lunch. You’ll take each deal through the full cycle: qualifying, understanding the client’s goals, building and presenting the proposal, negotiating and closing. Once a client is on board, you’ll manage the relationship and grow it through rebookings and new campaigns. The average first order is around £15,000, so this is consultative, value-led selling, not low-value volume.
Responsibilities
- New business: research, prospect and qualify your own leads, with the phone at the heart of your day.
- Client management: build lasting relationships with the clients you win, and shape media plans around their objectives.
- Selling: run the sales cycle from first call to close, including presentations, proposals and negotiation.
- Campaign delivery: work with the planning, creative and marketing teams so every campaign launches well and performs.
- Market knowledge: keep up to date with media trends, competitor activity and what’s working for advertisers.
- Performance: track your pipeline and results, review campaign performance with clients, and spot chances to upsell and cross-sell.
What You’ll Need
- At least two years of media sales experience, ideally across more than one format (out-of-home, print, digital, broadcast)
- A record of winning new business and hitting targets
- A strong phone manner and the confidence to speak to business owners and senior decision makers
- A clear grasp of your own numbers: billings, average order value and conversion rate
- Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills
- Resilience, and the drive to build a client base of your own
- Comfortable using a CRM and Microsoft Office
- Happy to work in the office five days a week
Benefits
- £35,000 to £40,000 base salary
- Commission of up to 7% on new business and 5% on rebookings
- £70,000+ realistic in year 1, with earnings growing each year as your clients rebook
- Bonus incentives on top of commission
- Full training in media planning and buying
- 28 days’ annual holiday and a company pension
- Laptop and mobile phone provided
- Regular team socials and company events
- Easy to reach by public transport
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, office based five days a week.
