Site Health and Safety Supervisor
Nassau, Bahamas. Permanent role with Thatcher Associates, the specialist construction & property desk.
About the role
The opportunity
Our client is a construction company delivering a major project on a Caribbean island, and they need an experienced Health and Safety Supervisor to lead safety on site. You will be the person who sets the safety standard on site, from the day a new worker arrives until the job is finished.
This is a hands-on role. The client expects their HSE Supervisor to spend at least 80% of the working day out on site rather than in an office. That means walking the site, spotting problems before they become incidents, and putting them right on the spot. It suits someone who likes being trusted to run things on site, and who is confident enough to stop work when something isn’t right.
What you will be doing
- Running the health and safety induction for every new employee on site
- Monitoring all aspects of safety on site every day
- Delivering toolbox talks at least weekly, and more often when the work calls for it
- Correcting unsafe practice on site and building good safety habits across the workforce
What you will need
- At least five years’ experience in a health and safety role on construction projects
- The confidence to hold a site to a standard and the judgement to know when to stop work
OSHA training or certification would be an advantage.
What is on offer
- Salary up to $8,000 per month tax free
- Accommodation and meals provided on island in newly built staff housing
- One week off every ten weeks
- Company cell phone and laptop
The practical detail
This is a full-time, rotational role and the hours are long. You will work six days a week, 7am to noon and 1pm to 6pm, which is 60 hours a week. You will live on island in the staff housing for ten weeks at a time, with one week off between rotations. We would rather you knew that up front than found out at offer stage.
This role is open to candidates in the Caribbean region - Bahamian citizens will not require a work permit.
