About the role

MEP Project Director, Luxury Hospitality, Caribbean

Caribbean | Net US dollar salary, depending on experience | Full expatriate package

The opportunity

Our client is an international MEP contractor delivering complex building services packages on luxury hotels, resorts, residential and infrastructure projects. Their Caribbean business is growing quickly, with a busy pipeline of high end work across the region, and they are appointing a Project Director to lead the full mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection package on a major luxury resort scheme, from design through to handover.

This is a long term senior appointment rather than a single project hire. You will report to the Regional Operations Director, with regular exposure to the Managing Director and board. You will be the client’s main point of contact on MEPF, leading a site management team of 15 to 20. The role suits someone who has run large MEP packages before, is at ease in front of owners, operators and design teams, and wants to build a career with a contractor that is expanding across the Caribbean.

What you will be doing

  • Leading the MEPF site management team of 15 to 20 across mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection
  • Managing the MEP design process: coordination with the architect, engineers and main contractor, clash resolution, and keeping design ahead of installation
  • Owning the MEPF programme, integrating it with the main contractor’s master programme and driving it through procurement, installation, testing and commissioning
  • Acting as the senior client facing lead in meetings with the owner, operator, project managers and main contractor
  • Controlling cost, change and commercial risk alongside the commercial team, and reporting to regional and board level

What you will need

  • Project Director or senior Project Manager experience leading large MEP or MEPF packages
  • Hospitality MEP experience, either on new build hotels and resorts or on major hotel refurbishment and fit-out, backed by a strong record on other large scale builds such as commercial, healthcare or mixed use
  • Proven strength in both design coordination and installation management
  • Real programme and scheduling capability: you can build, interrogate and defend an MEP programme, not only report against it
  • Experience leading a site management team of a similar size
  • The presence to represent the package confidently with clients, consultants and main contractors on a high profile scheme

Caribbean or island project experience is a strong preference, given what it teaches about logistics, procurement lead times and labour, but it is not essential for the right person.

The practical detail

This is a resident, site based role, and our client is looking for a minimum commitment of four years. Their work spans several Caribbean territories, so after this project you may move to the next major scheme elsewhere in the region. You will need to be comfortable relocating within the Caribbean as projects dictate. The role is open to candidates of any nationality.
