About the role
Traveling Superintendent
About the role
Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt
Location: Office based in Miami, Florida, with travel to project sites that will extend beyond the region
The Traveling Superintendent runs the field side of each project on location, living near the jobsite for the duration of each build and moving to the next project at closeout. You are the on-site lead from mobilization through punch list and turnover, owning schedule, safety, quality, manpower, and subcontractor performance.
This role suits a superintendent who is comfortable away from home for extended periods, can stand up a jobsite quickly in an unfamiliar market, and builds working relationships with local subcontractors, inspectors, and owners from day one.
Key responsibilities
Mobilization and project setup
- Travel to each new project ahead of start to set up the jobsite, temporary facilities, laydown, and site logistics
- Attend the turnover meeting with the estimating and project management team to review scope, budget, schedule, and known risks before work begins
- Identify, qualify, and onboard local subcontractors and suppliers in new markets
- Establish contacts with the local building department, utilities, and inspectors early
Running the work
- Supervise all field activity, subcontractors, and field crews on site
- Build, maintain, and update the project schedule with the Project Manager, and flag delays early
- Check layout and key measurements against the drawings, and resolve sequencing conflicts before trades mobilize
- Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and manage manpower to the schedule
- Coordinate and attend all inspections
- Coordinate on-site cost and labor tracking with the Project Manager
Safety and quality
- Own jobsite safety, including the site-specific safety plan and weekly toolbox talks
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure jobsite
- Hold work to quality standards and the contract documents
Documentation and communication
- Keep daily field reports, weekly safety reports, the change log, and RFIs current, using Procore or a similar platform
- Act as the on-site point of contact for the owner or owner's representative, architect, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Report progress to the Project Manager and leadership remotely, since the home office is often in a different state
Closeout and handoff
- Drive punch list completion, closeout documentation, and turnover to the owner
- Demobilize the site and transition to the next assigned project
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of experience as a superintendent or assistant superintendent on commercial construction projects
- Track record of running projects away from a home base, including setting up sites in unfamiliar markets

- Experience building and managing a project schedule
- OSHA 30 certification, or willingness to obtain it
- Proficiency with a construction management platform such as Procore, plus Microsoft Office
- Clear written and verbal communication, including remote reporting to a home office
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel and stay on location for the length of each project

- Hospitality construction experience
- Ground-up and tenant improvement experience
- Familiarity with MS Project or Primavera P6
- First Aid/CPR certification
