Superintendent
Bermuda. Permanent role with Thatcher Associates, the specialist construction & property desk.
About the role
Superintendent / Works Manager (Building Construction), Bermuda
Bermuda | US$120,000 to $170,000 basic, depending on experience | Long-term permanent role
The opportunity
Our client is a long-established Bermuda main contractor with a strong track record across commercial offices, high-end residential, hospitality, healthcare and industrial buildings, on projects upwards of US$25 million. They are strengthening their site leadership for the long term and want someone to work alongside an experienced works manager, pick up the local knowledge that only time on the island gives you, and grow into the senior field role.
This is a site-based job for someone who came up through a trade and still thinks like one. You will be the link between working foremen, site crews and the office, keeping programmes moving and holding subcontractors to account where their own supervision is thin. The team values people who are calm, collaborative and visible on site, who pick up the phone or walk over rather than send an email, and who get results without raising their voice.
What you will be doing
- Running sites day to day across a varied portfolio, from offices and residential towers to hotel, healthcare and fit-out work
- Planning and sequencing every trade from demolition through to finishes, and keeping the programme on track
- Leading a directly employed workforce of carpenters, masons, labourers and plant operators alongside labour-only subcontractors, with the balance shifting by job
- Driving subcontractor performance and stepping in where their middle management falls short
- Keeping the office informed on progress, problems and resourcing
What you will need
- A trade background, progressing through to overall site leadership on building projects
- Experience running projects over US$25 million
- A working knowledge of sequencing across all trades, from demolition to finishing
- A hands-on, proactive approach and the temperament to lead crews by example
A carpentry background is preferred, though masonry is considered, particularly with concrete block experience. Island or remote location experience is useful but not essential. Backgrounds mainly in heavy civils will not suit this role.
What is on offer
- US$120,000 to $170,000 basic, depending on experience
- A long-term permanent role with a long-established contractor
- A handover period alongside an experienced works manager
- Varied work across several sectors rather than one repeating building type
- Shortlisted candidates will be flown to Bermuda to meet the team and see the business
