About the role

Our client is an established consumables supply and distribution business serving trade and retail customers across the islands. The business is growing, and the owner needs someone to take full charge of the warehouse, stock, purchasing and deliveries so they can step back from day-to-day operations.

You'll lead a team of five, run the island-wide delivery operation and look after the vehicle fleet, forklifts and the equipment the business places with its customers. As the business grows, you'll build the back of house to keep pace with it.

What you'll do

Warehouse and inventory

• Run goods in, storage and dispatch, keeping the warehouse organised, clean and well laid out
• Hold accurate stock levels with strict FIFO rotation and correctly managed best-before dates
• Know the full product range: how fast each line moves, depletes and is consumed
• Use stock ratios and consumption data to cut wastage and anticipate shortfalls
• Maintain the barcode and stock-control systems

Purchasing

• Own ordering end to end: raise purchase requisitions for office approval and manage reorder timing with established suppliers
• Plan orders around supplier lead times and shipping into the island so stock arrives before it runs out
• There's no supplier negotiation or contract work; the job is disciplined, well-timed ordering

Logistics and distribution

• Plan and manage delivery schedules across the island
• Oversee the drivers and vehicle maintenance
• Work with freight forwarders and customs on inbound shipments
• Make sure deliveries arrive on time and correct

Team leadership

• Manage supervisors and drivers, setting daily tasks and priorities and holding the team to them
• Coach the team and keep everyone accountable

Reporting and improvement

• Produce regular reports on stock, purchasing, deliveries and KPIs
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and health and safety regulations
• Review warehouse processes and introduce systems and controls that improve efficiency and service

What you'll bring

• Warehouse or inventory management experience, including leading a back-of-house team
• Real authority and presence: a team that respects you and follows your lead
• Strong numeracy: stock ratios, consumption rates and reorder calculations
• Confidence with IT: stock-control and barcode systems, ordering and reporting
• Self-sufficiency: you see what needs doing, take responsibility and run your own admin without daily direction
• Energy and pace: you move the operation forward rather than keeping it ticking over
