Fire Alarm Service Engineer (Service & Maintenance)
Chelmsford, Essex, mobile | £39 to £42k depending on experience | company vehicle, fuel card and strong overtime
The opportunity
Our client is a growing fire and life safety systems specialist, providing service and maintenance support to retail and commercial premises across the Southeast and London. As demand for compliant fire detection cover increases, they are looking to add a Fire Alarm Service Engineer to their field team.
This is a mobile, field based role covering a patch of retail and commercial sites, with day to day autonomy once you are up and running. It will suit someone who already has solid service experience on conventional and analogue addressable systems, and who wants to join a business that will invest in further training rather than leave you standing still.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out scheduled service and inspection visits on fire detection and life safety systems, in line with company procedures and system requirements
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out remedial repairs on site, working through problems methodically rather than escalating everything
- Reporting any deviation between the installed system and its original specification to your supervisor or manager
- Completing site paperwork, expense forms and timesheets accurately and on time
- Representing the business professionally in front of customers, on retail and commercial sites
What you'll need
- Experience servicing conventional and analogue addressable fire detection systems
- Good working knowledge of BS 5839-1 and 6:2025
- Working knowledge of fire alarm software from at least one of Morley, Kentec or Advanced (Notifier or Gent also useful)
- A full UK driving licence
- A CSCS or ECS card
- At least 1 to 3 years' experience in a similar service or installation role
It would also be an advantage if you have experience with air sampling systems (Vesda or Wagner) or gas suppression systems, hold an FIA card, or have City & Guilds 186. Fully qualified installation engineers and electricians with fire alarm installation experience will also be considered.
What's on offer
- £36k to £42k basic, depending on experience, with regular overtime available on top
- Company vehicle and fuel card
- Mobile phone, tablet and laptop
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, and your birthday off
- A structured training and progression plan
The practical detail
This is a mobile role covering the Southeast and London, working across retail and commercial sites, so expect to be on the road most days, with occasional nights away from home when a job requires it. Overtime is genuinely available for those who want it, on top of the basic salary.
Apply
If you've got hands on service experience with fire detection systems and want a business that will back your development rather than just fill a rota gap, we'd like to hear from you.
We've been placing engineers and technical specialists across fire, security and life safety since 2000. You'll speak to a consultant who understands the systems and standards you work with, get a straight answer on salary and scope before you commit any time to the process, and we'll keep you updated either way. All applications are treated in confidence, and nothing goes to a client without speaking to you first.
