Birmingham. Permanent role with Thatcher Associates, the specialist further education & skills desk.

Birmingham Permanent Further Education & Skills Posted 24 August 2026

About the role

Electrical trainer assessor (City & Guilds)

Birmingham | £44,000 plus benefits | teaching City & Guilds electrical qualifications

The opportunity

Our client, an established training provider delivering electrical qualifications to learners across the West Midlands, is looking for an experienced electrician ready to move off the tools and into training and assessing.

This is a role for someone who knows the trade inside out and wants to pass that knowledge on, rather than someone looking for an easy step back from site work. You will be working with learners at different stages, from apprentices through to experienced electricians upskilling or converting qualifications, so patience and the ability to explain things clearly matter as much as technical depth.

What you will be doing

  • Delivering theory and practical training on City & Guilds electrical qualifications to a mixed group of learners
  • Assessing and signing off learner competence against City & Guilds and NVQ criteria
  • Marking coursework and preparing learners for examinations and end point assessment
  • Keeping accurate, audit ready records of training and assessment
  • Making sure course content reflects current wiring regulations and industry standards

What you will need

Essential:

  • A recognised electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) and up to date knowledge of the 18th edition wiring regulations
  • Solid hands on experience as a qualified electrician, ideally with some supervisory or mentoring exposure

It would also help to hold, or be working towards, an assessing qualification such as TAQA, CAVA or A1, and a teaching qualification such as AET or PTLLS, though training can be provided for the right candidate.

What is on offer

  • £44,000 basic, plus benefits

Apply

If you are a time served electrician who enjoys explaining the job as much as doing it, we would like to hear from you.

Thatcher Associates has been placing technical and engineering professionals since 2000. You will speak to a consultant who understands the trade, get a straight answer on salary and scope before you commit any time, and be kept informed either way. All applications are treated in confidence and nothing is shared without speaking to you first.

How to apply

Apply on this site with your CV, or send it to info@thatcherassociates.com quoting reference 352. Every application is read by the consultant who runs the desk, not a screening tool.
