Domestic Gas Engineer
Bristol. Permanent role with Thatcher Associates, the specialist trades & maintenance desk.
About the role
Bristol | Circa £42,000 to £46,000 basic, depending on experience | Company van and standby allowance
Our client is a housing association managing a substantial social housing stock across Bristol and the surrounding area. They are looking for a Gas Safe registered engineer to join their in-house team, servicing, maintaining and repairing domestic gas appliances across their tenanted properties.
This is a varied role covering routine servicing, breakdown repairs and gas safety checks, working directly in residents' homes. It would suit an engineer who is comfortable working independently, takes pride in a tidy, professional job, and is used to dealing with tenants face to face rather than working on empty sites.
What you will be doing
- Servicing, maintaining and repairing domestic gas boilers, fires and other appliances across the housing stock
- Carrying out annual gas safety checks (CP12) and completing certification accurately and on time
- Diagnosing and repairing breakdowns, often on a same day or next day basis
- Working in occupied properties, so managing appointments and communicating clearly with tenants
- Keeping van stock, tools and paperwork in order to a consistent standard
What you will need
- Gas Safe registration with current ACS core domestic assessments (CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1 or equivalent)
- A full UK driving licence
- Experience working in occupied domestic or social housing properties
Experience with a wider range of appliance types, or a background specifically in social housing, would be an advantage but is not essential.
What is on offer
- Circa £42,000 to £46,000 basic, depending on experience
- Company van and fuel card
- Standby allowance for out of hours callouts
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Pension scheme
- Tools, PPE and uniform provided
- Ongoing training and support towards further qualifications
The practical detail
The role includes a standby rota for out of hours emergency callouts (roughly one week in four to five), paid separately from basic salary. Core hours are Monday to Friday, with some flexibility needed around tenant appointments. A DBS check is required before starting, given the nature of the work in residents' homes.
