Site Manager

Channel Islands. Permanent role with Thatcher Associates, the specialist construction & property desk.

Channel Islands Permanent Construction & Property Posted 27 July 2026

About the role

Site Manager, Channel Islands

Please note: this role requires the successful candidate to live and work in Guernsey.

Thatcher Associates is working on behalf of an established main contractor with a strong and varied portfolio across Guernsey and Jersey, spanning education, hotel and leisure, residential, commercial and healthcare projects. They are now appointing an experienced Site Manager to lead day to day delivery on one of their live sites, with a focus on fit-out works within the education sector.

The pipeline behind the current portfolio is strong. The client is looking for someone they can retain and move onto future schemes rather than a single project appointment.

The role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take day to day control of the site:

  • Oversee all on-site activity, making sure works are delivered safely, on programme and to the required quality standard
  • Manage subcontractors and direct labour, coordinating trades and the sequencing of works
  • Maintain high health, safety and environmental standards, including toolbox talks and site inspections
  • Liaise with the Project Manager, design team and client representatives on progress and technical matters
  • Keep accurate site records, including diaries, RAMS and quality documentation
  • Support programme and resource planning alongside the wider project team

Presence matters here. The client wants a Site Manager who is present on site, visible to the trades and to the client's team, picking up issues early rather than managing from an office.

Ideal candidate

  • Proven Site Manager experience on commercial, residential or public sector construction projects
  • A track record of delivering fit-out packages, ideally on education schemes
  • Strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice
  • SMSTS and CSCS (Black or Gold card) essential, First Aid at Work desirable
  • Experience of NEC contracts is beneficial but not essential
  • Confident, hands-on leadership style with the ability to manage multiple trades
  • Well organised, with close attention to programme and quality
  • Friendly and professional, and comfortable working within a close-knit island construction market
  • Able to commit to Guernsey for the medium term, given the client's intention to retain you for future work

Package and benefits

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience
  • Support with accommodation
  • A varied, high-quality project pipeline and the quality of life that comes with island living
