Design Manager / Engineering Manager – Bridge Rebuild Programme

Thatcher Associates is recruiting on behalf of a leading infrastructure contractor for a Design Manager or Engineering Manager to join a major bridge rebuild programme in Jamaica.

The Programme

The programme covers the rebuild of 55 bridges. It is one of the largest bridge infrastructure programmes currently underway anywhere in the world. The bridges being rebuilt connect parishes and communities that have been cut off by hurricane damage and worsening climate impacts, so the work has a direct and lasting effect on people's daily lives.

The Role

You will lead design management across the programme, working closely with designers, construction teams and the client to keep delivery on track. Responsibilities include:

• Design management
• Value engineering
• Temporary works coordination
• Buildability reviews
• Programme optimisation
• Interface management between designers, construction teams and the client

This is a fast-moving programme with a demanding delivery schedule. The role suits someone who can make quick decisions, solve problems under pressure and keep multidisciplinary teams aligned. You will work alongside colleagues from across Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

Location and Rotation

Based in the Caribbean on a 3-year international deployment. The rotation is 12 weeks on, 2 weeks off.

About You

You will have a strong background in bridge and structural engineering, ideally with experience managing design on large, complex infrastructure programmes. You will be comfortable working internationally and managing multiple interfaces between design, construction and client teams.
