Bristol. Permanent role with Thatcher Associates, the specialist further education & skills desk.

Bristol Permanent Further Education & Skills Posted 6 July 2026

About the role

Gas Assessor and Tutor (ACS / Apprenticeships) - North Bristol

North Bristol (Aztec West) | £40,000 to £42,000 per annum (DOE)* | Company car, funded teaching and assessing qualifications

The opportunity

Our client is an established gas training provider based in North Bristol, delivering ACS certification and apprenticeships to the next generation of gas engineers from their Bristol centre. The team is small and supportive, and there's genuine scope to shape how learners are taught rather than working to someone else's script.

This is a role for someone who wants to come off the tools without losing the trade. The work splits between hands-on delivery in the workshop and classroom instruction, alongside lesson planning, assessment records and taking apprentices through to completion. You'll need to communicate well and motivate people as much as know your trade, particularly with apprentices who are new to it.

What you will be doing

  • Delivering ACS training and assessment, including CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1 and HTR1
  • Assessing and supporting gas apprentices through to completion of their qualifications
  • Preparing lesson plans and materials, and maintaining assessment records
  • Keeping delivery in line with current Gas Safe, HSE and awarding body standards
  • Giving learners honest feedback and the pastoral support that keeps them on programme

What you will need

  • Full Gas Safe registration, or eligibility for it, with the relevant ACS qualifications
  • Solid, current industry experience across domestic gas, commercial gas, or both
  • A recognised assessor qualification such as TAQA or A1, or a willingness to work towards one

A teaching qualification is useful but not essential. The client will fund you through further teaching and assessing awards, along with ongoing CPD.

What is on offer

  • £40,000 to £42,000 per annum, depending on experience*
  • Funded teaching and assessing qualifications
  • Ongoing CPD
  • Company car
  • Company pension
  • Free on-site parking
  • Discounted or free food

The practical detail

Full time, based in person at the North Bristol training centre with easy access off the motorway network. This is not a remote or hybrid role.
