Bermuda Permanent Construction & Property Posted 1 July 2026

About the role

Professional Quantity Surveyor, Bermuda
Posted by Thatcher Associates on behalf of a confidential client

The Opportunity

This is an appointment worth taking seriously. A well-established and well-regarded cost and project management consultancy in Bermuda is looking to bring a Professional Quantity Surveyor into its close-knit team, off the back of continued growth and a healthy forward pipeline. The business delivers across the full consultancy spectrum, encompassing cost management, project management, construction management and building surveying, serving both private home owners and commercial developers across the island. It is RICS-regulated, professionally affiliated, and has built its reputation over many years on the quality of its advice and the strength of its client relationships.

For the right candidate, this is a long-term opportunity rather than a stepping stone. The client is not looking for someone to pass through, and the role has been created to bring in a person who wants to build a genuine career in Bermuda, grow into broader responsibilities over time, and become a trusted part of a team that takes its work seriously without taking itself too seriously.

Bermuda itself needs little introduction as a destination, but it is worth saying that life here genuinely delivers. The island offers an exceptional quality of life, a warm and welcoming international community, and an outdoor lifestyle that is hard to match anywhere in the world. Sailing, golf, rugby, football, squash and some of the Atlantic's finest beaches are all on the doorstep, and the social scene, particularly among the expat professional community, is vibrant and well established. Hamilton is a genuinely enjoyable place to live and work, and for someone ready to make the move, Bermuda tends to get under the skin quickly.

About the Role

Working within a close-knit team, the PQS will take on a varied caseload of projects from inception through to completion, with values running up to around $50 million. The consultancy model means genuine breadth of exposure, and the expectation is that the successful candidate will be involved across cost management, contract administration, procurement, and project delivery activity rather than sitting narrowly within a single function. Direct access to senior leadership is a given in an environment of this size, and the working culture is deliberately relaxed, flexible and non-corporate, with a strong emphasis on work-life balance and a Monday to Friday working week as standard.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering professional quantity surveying and cost management services across a varied project portfolio
  • Preparing cost plans, estimates, bills of quantities and tender documentation
  • Managing procurement processes and evaluating contractor and supplier submissions
  • Administering contracts and managing the commercial relationship with contractors through construction
  • Monitoring and reporting on project costs, variations, valuations and final accounts
  • Attending site and client meetings, producing clear and timely reports and correspondence
  • Supporting project management and construction management activities where required
  • Managing multiple projects concurrently and operating with a good degree of autonomy

The Candidate

You will be degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a closely related discipline, and ideally hold or be working towards MRICS. The client is open to candidates with between two and ten years of relevant post-graduate experience, and is as interested in attitude, aptitude and work ethic as in years served. Consultancy-side experience is preferred, though strong candidates from a contractor commercial background who can demonstrate the breadth of interest and approach the role demands will also be considered.

What matters most is that you are genuinely versatile, comfortable working independently without heavy supervision, and interested in getting involved across the full range of the consultancy's work rather than staying narrowly within a cost management function. You will need to be the sort of person who is happy to roll their sleeves up, engage directly with clients, and bring a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to whatever lands on your desk. Those who thrive here are typically proactive, intellectually curious, and genuinely excited by the prospect of a life and career in Bermuda rather than simply open to it.

This role would suit someone making their first move overseas as readily as someone with prior international experience, provided the motivation and mindset are right.

Package

Salary is open and will be discussed on an individual basis depending on experience, with a bonus structure in place. Relocation support and the standard benefits associated with a professional Bermuda appointment will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
