A major utility provider is expanding its underground infrastructure and street lighting operations and is now hiring Utility Locators at all levels—Locator I (Entry-Level), Locator II (Intermediate), and Locator III (Senior/Lead Technician).
These positions are critical for ensuring safe excavation, protecting underground electrical assets, supporting infrastructure projects, and contributing to system reliability. Whether you’re just starting your career or are an experienced locator ready for leadership responsibilities, there is a role suited to your skill level.
Locator I (Entry-Level)
Perfect for individuals seeking to begin a technical field career.
Responsibilities include marking underground utilities, reading maps, documenting locate requests, and assisting senior locators. Full training provided.
Locator II (Intermediate)
Ideal for candidates with 2–3+ years of locating experience.
Responsibilities include independently performing utility locates, using locating devices (RF, GPR), updating maps, supporting investigations, and mentoring Locator I team members.
Locator III (Senior / Lead Technician)
Suited for highly experienced locators with leadership capability.
Responsibilities include performing advanced/high-risk locates in congested areas, quality control inspections, field issue resolution, training junior staff, and coordinating with engineers and permitting authorities.
Key Responsibilities across all levels:
- Identify, mark, and document underground utility infrastructure
- Use locating equipment such as RF transmitters, GPS, GPR, and mapping tools
- Support safe excavation and damage prevention initiatives
- Communicate clearly with construction teams, contractors, and supervisors
- Participate in safety briefings, audits, and field training
- Maintain accurate mapping, ticketing, and reporting documentation
Qualifications:
Locator I:
- No prior experience required; training provided
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
Locator II:
- 2–3+ years’ locating experience
- Familiarity with GIS and mapping tools
Locator III:
- 4–5+ years’ experience + advanced locating certification
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
Across all roles:
- Valid driver’s licence required
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, rain, and varied terrain
- Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
