A rapidly growing utilities organisation is seeking an experienced Technician III to provide advanced technical and field support across electrical distribution, communications systems, equipment testing, commissioning, and system reliability projects. This senior-level role acts as a technical lead in the field, supporting engineers, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring safe and accurate execution of system maintenance and construction activities.
This position is ideal for an experienced utility or engineering technician who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving complex field issues, supporting system improvements, and working collaboratively across engineering, operations, and communications teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment, meters, control devices, and communication systems
- Conduct field verification, take technical measurements, and support engineering design and construction planning
- Carry out inspections, functional testing, and commissioning of new equipment and installations
- Respond to outages, equipment failures, and system disturbances, providing clear field reports and recommendations
- Lead field crews for assigned tasks, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, warehouse, and procurement teams
- Complete accurate field documentation, as-builts, test records, and logs
- Mentor Technicians I & II in safe work methods, equipment handling, and diagnostic practices
- Participate in system audits, mapping, asset tagging, and engineering support initiatives
- Support emergency and storm-restoration work when required
Qualifications & Experience:
- Technical diploma, vocational certification, or equivalent training in Electrical Technology or related field
- 5+ years’ experience in electrical utility, engineering, or field operations
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, substation equipment, communications infrastructure, and testing procedures
- Experience using diagnostic instruments, field testing tools, and measurement equipment
- Previous experience training or supporting junior technicians
- Valid driver’s licence
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, confined spaces, and variable weather conditions

- Strong technical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability
- High attention to detail with strong safety awareness
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, plans, and engineering documents
- Excellent communication and reporting skills
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to respond to after-hours emergencies
- Confident leading small task groups or field operations
