A major utilities organisation is seeking a skilled System Operator to support real-time monitoring and control of the electrical distribution network. This critical role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of power by overseeing system performance, responding to alarms and outages, coordinating field crews, and executing switching operations under strict protocols.
This is a high-accountability, non-management position best suited to professionals experienced in utility system operations, power distribution, or control room environments. The role operates within a 24/7 rotating shift structure.
Key Responsibilities:

Monitor and control the electrical distribution system using SCADA, OMS, and related control room tools

Respond to system alarms, outages, disturbances, and service interruptions to support timely restoration

Execute approved switching orders in compliance with safety and lock-out/tag-out requirements

Maintain accurate system logs, switching records, and event documentation within ERP and control systems

Coordinate with field crews, engineering teams, and external stakeholders during planned and emergency events

Support daily system performance reviews, including feeder loading, voltage trends, and system capacity

Assist with grid stability efforts, operational safety, and reliability planning

Participate in storm response, emergency operations, drills, and system restoration
-
Provide updates to leadership during operational events and severe weather conditions

Support grid modernization initiatives, automation projects, and resilience activities
Qualifications & Experience:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline

3–5 years’ experience in power system operations, utility control room operations, dispatch, or distribution engineering

Knowledge of distribution switching, outage management, utility safety protocols, and energized work environments

Proficiency with SCADA, OMS, or system control software

Strong communication and situational awareness, especially under pressure

Ability to work rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliability and focus
