The Senior System Planner is a key technical leader within the Engineering Division responsible for long term system planning, load forecasting, capacity analysis, and grid development for the New Providence electrical network. This role ensures that grid infrastructure is designed, expanded, and upgraded to meet present and future reliability, safety, and growth requirements. 
 
The Senior System Planner develops strategic plans, conducts power system studies, evaluates capital investment needs, and supports grid modernization initiatives. The position acts as a primary advisor to the VP of Engineering on system capacity, future system needs, and long-range planning strategies, while also supporting regulatory filings, budgeting, and capital planning.  
 
Essential Functions: 
 
System Planning & Load Forecasting 
• Lead the development of long-term and short-term load forecasts for system, feeder, and substation planning. 
• Identify capacity constraints, aging infrastructure, and future expansion needs across the grid. 
• Prepare comprehensive System Expansion Plans and integrated resource planning documents. 
 
Power System Studies & Analysis 
• Conduct advanced planning studies including: 
o Load flow analysis 
o Short-circuit studies 
o Voltage analysis 
o Reliability assessments 
o Contingency (N-1/N-2) studies 
• Evaluate system performance under projected load growth, DER integration, and planned outages. 
 
Capital Planning & Infrastructure Development 
• Recommend and justify capital projects such as new substations, feeder upgrades, switching improvements, 
and transmission enhancements. 
• Support the development of annual and multi-year capital budgets. 
• Prepare engineering planning reports, technical memos, and investment justification packages. 
Grid Modernization & Technology Integration  
• Assess modernization strategies related to automation, digital substations, feeder reconfiguration, and 
advanced analytics. 
• Support the integration of distributed energy resources (DER), renewable energy, and energy storage. 
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity and IT/SCADA teams to support modern grid technologies.
 
Cross Functional Collaboration  
• Work closely with Protection & Control, Operations, Asset Management, and the Control Room to ensure 
alignment between planning assumptions and real-time system needs. 
• Coordinate with Regulatory Affairs on filings, technical reports, and compliance submissions. 
• Engage with external consultants, government agencies, and major customers as needed. 
Standards, Documentation & Reporting  
• Develop and maintain system planning standards, methodologies, and modeling datasets. 
• Maintain accurate records of system forecasts, planning assumptions, and study results. 
• Provide planning reports to senior leadership, including system performance and future requirements. 
Operations Support 
• Provide planning expertise during outage analysis, storm preparation, and restoration planning. 
• Support scenario analysis for load transfers, switching plans, and contingency operations. 
 
Qualifications: 
 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field. 
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility strongly preferred. 
• Minimum 7+ years of experience in system planning, power system engineering, or utility operations. 
• Demonstrated experience with load forecasting, planning studies, and capacity analysis. 
• Experience preparing capital plans and system planning reports for utilities.
