$78000 - $115200 The Senior Engineer, Protection & Control (P&C) is a key technical leader within the Engineering Division, responsible
for the design, implementation, and oversight of all protection, control, and automation systems. This high level role ensures the safe, reliable, and secure operation of the electrical system, including substations, feeders, SCADA/automation systems, and transmission/distribution assets.
The role provides advanced engineering expertise, leads major capital initiatives, supports root-cause investigations,
and guides protection and control strategies for system reliability. This position also mentors junior engineers,
collaborates cross functionally, and serves as a primary technical adviser to the VP of Engineering.
Essential Functions:
Protection System Design & Engineering
• Lead the design, configuration, and implementation of protection and control schemes for substations,
feeders, transmission and distribution assets.
• Develop and review protection settings, coordination studies, fault current analyses, and relay logic.
• Ensure all protection systems meet applicable codes, standards, with engineering requirements.
System Reliability & Power System Analysis
• Conduct advanced system studies, including protection coordination, arc flash analysis, and fault evaluations.
• Identify system vulnerabilities and develop engineering solutions to strengthen reliability.
• Analyze system events, disturbances, and mis-operations to determine root causes and corrective actions.
SCADA, Automation & Control
• Provide engineering leadership for SCADA, automation, and grid modernisation initiatives.
• Work closely with the Fibre, Communications & Control team to maintain secure and reliable communication
networks.
• Support integration of field devices, RTUs, IEDs, relays, meters, and automation systems.
Project Leadership & Implementation
• Lead major capital and reliability projects involving protection, control, and automation systems.
• Prepare technical specifications, engineering drawings, scope of work documents, and procurement
requirements.
• Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and government agencies to ensure successful
execution.
Operations Support & Event Response
• Provide technical support to Field Operations, Engineering Control Room, and other departments for
protection related issues.
• Assist with system restoration efforts, including storm response and major outage investigations.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert during system events, relay operations, and abnormal system conditions.
Quality Assurance, Compliance & Safety
• Ensure all protection and control designs follow QA/QC requirements, safety protocols, and regulatory
standards.
• Maintain accurate system documentation, engineering files, relay settings databases, and as-built diagrams.
• Develop and update engineering standards, protection philosophies, and control strategies.
Leadership, Mentor & Collaboration
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical coaching across the Engineering Division.
• Serve as a trusted adviser to the VP of Engineering on protection strategy, system reliability, and emerging
technologies.
