Senior Design Manager

Thatcher Associates are working in partnership with a leading UK construction business to appoint a Senior Design Manager on a major, multi phase project of national significance.

The Opportunity

As Senior Design Manager, you will take ownership of design management across a large and complex project, from pre construction through to handover.

You will work closely with the senior leadership team, ensuring that design is fully integrated with programme, commercial and delivery objectives.

This is a role for someone who can bring structure to complexity, challenge where needed and lead design with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design management process across all project stages, ensuring coordination, compliance and buildability.

Manage consultant teams through pre construction and delivery, integrating specialist designers and driving performance.

Oversee design reviews, approvals and documentation, ensuring all outputs meet required standards and programme timelines.

Act as a key point of contact with clients, consultants and stakeholders, representing the business at a senior level.

Manage interfaces with third parties including planning and building control, ensuring smooth progression through gateways.

Support bid activity and contribute to securing future work through technical input and presentations.

What We’re Looking For

An experienced Design Manager or Architect with a proven track record on major new build projects.

Strong understanding of the full design and construction process, including RIBA stages, Building Regulations and CDM requirements.

Comfortable leading consultant teams and engaging at senior level with clients and stakeholders.

Commercially aware, technically strong and able to make clear decisions across complex design challenges.

Degree qualified in a relevant discipline such as Construction Management, Architecture or Building Studies.
