Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor – Guernsey
Location: Guernsey, Channel Islands
Client: A well-established, long-standing building contractor operating across multiple islands
Role Type: Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor (depending on experience)
About the Opportunity
Thatcher Associates is shortlisting for a respected construction contractor with a significant history of delivering projects throughout the Channel Islands. Unlike many UK mainland roles, this position offers genuine variety. The company undertakes work across several islands and delivers projects across multiple sectors — including commercial buildings, residential schemes, heritage works, public buildings, industrial upgrades, and specialist facilities. As a result, no two projects are the same, and the successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide mix of construction environments.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience gained in a UK construction environment. You will be involved in the full lifecycle of projects, from early-stage cost planning through to subcontractor appointment, ongoing cost control, variations, payments, and agreement of final accounts. The role requires someone who is confident administering standard forms of building contracts, such as JCT or similar.
Key Responsibilities
-
Project Inception to Completion: Manage cost planning, procurement, and subcontractor appointments from the outset of each project.
-
Commercial Management: Prepare valuations, handle variations, assess progress claims, and manage payments.
-
Final Accounts: Lead final account preparation and negotiation.
-
Contract Administration: Work effectively with JCT or comparable building contracts.
-
Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination: Liaise with specialist suppliers and subcontractors across different asset types and island locations.
Who We’re Looking For
-
Ideally degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
-
Experience gained in the UK construction sector, demonstrating strong commercial awareness and understanding of standard building practices.
-
Someone mobile, adaptable, and comfortable working across multiple island locations as required.
-
A professional who enjoys variety and can manage a diverse project workload.
