Construction Manager – The Bahamas

Major island development projects | Technical, hands-on role | Long-term opportunity

A leading construction organisation in The Bahamas is seeking a technically strong Construction Manager to join its growing team. This role is ideal for someone who has developed their career from a solid engineering foundation—someone who is highly detail-focused in both design and construction delivery, and who takes ownership of progress, quality, and outcomes.

You will play a pivotal role across significant island-based developments, supporting both design coordination and on-site delivery. With the right technical grounding, the organisation can fully support and coach the nuances of working in The Bahamas.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused position, suited to a professional who understands construction from first principles. You will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing design details and ensuring buildability

  • Defining and managing package scopes

  • Overseeing quality, materials, and labour performance

  • Leading site coordination and technical resolution

  • Supporting construction planning, scheduling, and methodology

  • Driving work forward while knowing when to question, challenge, or pause for clarity

Ideal Candidate Background

Foundational Experience

  • Began career as a Site Engineer, with experience reviewing design details, setting out on site, and managing quality

  • Experience working with self-perform teams: understanding labour outputs, install rates, and quantifying materials (e.g., concrete volumes, lumber take-offs, etc.)

Career Progression

  • Progressed into roles such as Senior Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager

  • Demonstrably comfortable balancing site delivery with technical decision-making

Education & Early Training

  • Early career spent with a major UK Tier 1 contractor (e.g., Laing O’Rourke, Sir Robert McAlpine, etc.)

  • Preferably not from a management-only background (e.g., consultancy-type firms), as the role requires strong technical and engineering competencies

Key Skillsets

  • Technical/Site Engineering: design review, setting out, quality assurance, and troubleshooting

  • Package Management: scope definition, procurement input, coordination, and progress monitoring

  • Quantification & Planning: take-offs/BoM/BoQ, construction scheduling, and method statements

  • Decision-Making: mature judgement, ability to act independently, and confidence to challenge or escalate appropriately

  • Digital Competency: familiarity with platforms such as MS Office, BIM360, Procore, Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject, Viewpoint (4Projects), Bluebeam, PlanSwift, etc. (full expertise not essential—ability to learn quickly is key)

Personal Attributes

  • Detail-oriented with a strong engineering mindset

  • Self-aware, composed under pressure, and capable of making informed decisions

  • Takes ownership, maintains accountability, and is committed to doing things the right way

  • Adaptable and open to learning the unique aspects of construction in The Bahamas

  • Motivated by quality, progress, and long-term results

What’s on Offer

  • A key technical leadership role on significant island development projects

  • A supportive team environment with opportunities for growth

  • Competitive package for relocation and island living

  • The chance to apply strong engineering fundamentals in a unique and rewarding location
