About the Opportunity

We are assisting an established restaurant operation seeking an experienced Kitchen Manager to lead their culinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate kitchen professional to take ownership of all kitchen operations, ensuring exceptional food quality, efficient service, and high standards across all areas.

You’ll be responsible for the complete kitchen operation, from menu planning and food preparation to team management, cost control, and maintaining exemplary health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Operations:

  • Ensure all food and products are consistently prepared and served to established recipes, portioning, and presentation standards
  • Oversee food purchasing, preparation, and quality control
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and receiving procedures to ensure correct products and proper stock rotation
  • Control food costs through proper requisition, storage procedures, and waste management
  • Maintain appropriate cleaning schedules for all kitchen areas, equipment, and food storage facilities
  • Monitor and maintain proper food holding and refrigeration temperature controls

Team Leadership:

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard kitchen personnel
  • Provide comprehensive training for new team members on recipes, cooking methods, portion control, and sanitation practices
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide ongoing coaching and development
  • Schedule labor efficiently to meet business demands while controlling costs
  • Administer fair and consistent disciplinary procedures when required
  • Train staff in safe operation of kitchen equipment and proper food handling

Menu & Standards:

  • Collaborate with management on menu planning and pricing
  • Establish portion sizes and create standard recipe cards for new menu items
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations
  • Maintain equipment through personal inspection and preventative maintenance programs
  • Complete all required paperwork, reports, and schedules in an organized manner

Guest Experience:

  • Maintain exceptional food quality and presentation standards
  • Step in where needed to ensure smooth service and guest satisfaction
  • Address any quality or service issues promptly and professionally

Essential Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in varied kitchen positions, including food preparation, line cook, fry cook, and expediter roles
  • At least 6 months of experience in a kitchen management or supervisory capacity
  • Proven track record managing kitchen operations and leading culinary teams

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to interact effectively with management, staff, and guests
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards
  • Budget management and cost control expertise
  • Menu planning and recipe development experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods
  • Capable of reaching, bending, stooping, and frequently lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment

Certifications (Desirable, not essential):

  • Food Safety / Hygiene certification
  • First Aid and CPR trained
  • Health and Safety qualifications
