GIS and Mapping Manager

The GIS/Mapping Manager is responsible for leading and managing the company’s Geographic Information Systems 
(GIS) and mapping functions to support planning, engineering, asset management, and operational decision-making.
 
This role oversees the development, maintenance, accuracy, and integrity of spatial 
and asset data, ensuring that all GIS products meet regulatory, operational, and strategic needs. The Manager provides technical leadership, manages project workflows, and ensures timely delivery of GIS outputs that support grid reliability, system expansion, fibre infrastructure, and customer projects. 
 
Essential Functions: 
 
• Lead the GIS/Mapping team in planning, prioritising, and executing GIS workflows, mapping requests, and 
project deliverables. 
• Develop and implement GIS governance standards, mapping protocols, metadata requirements, and data 
validation processes. 
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of GIS databases, layers, and system maps, ensuring accuracy, 
consistency, and compliance with internal engineering standards. 
• Coordinate GIS support for engineering, construction, asset management, fibre networks, and system control 
operations. 
• Manage GIS-related vendor relationships, software licenses, upgrades, and technical integrations. 
• Ensure all mapping work meets regulatory, operational, and safety requirements. 
• Maintain and update all spatial data, including electrical transmission/distribution assets, fibre infrastructure, substations, poles, easements, and customer connections. 
• Monitor data quality and coordinate regular field verification, auditing, and reconciliation processes. 
• Produce high-quality maps, dashboards, and analytics to support engineering studies, outage management, 
project planning, and reporting. 
• Integrate GIS with other enterprise systems (e.g., SCADA, asset management, work order systems) as 
operationally required. 
• Manage geospatial modelling, spatial analytics, and data visualisation tools for decision support. 
 Provide subject-matter expertise for land base mapping, parcel data, GPS field collection, and environmental 
datasets. 
 
Qualifications: 
 
• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, Computer Science, or related 
field. 
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in GIS, mapping, or utility spatial data management. 
• Experience managing teams in a technical or engineering environment preferred. 
• Proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, ESRI suite), GPS data collection systems, and mapping 
technologies. 
• Utility industry experience (power, water, telecom, fibre) strongly preferred.
