Thatcher Associates is currently recruiting on behalf of a client in the utilities sector for a Dispatcher to support the real-time coordination of service calls, customer outage reports, and emergency response activities across New Providence.

The Dispatcher plays a critical role in ensuring efficient communication between customers, field crews, engineers, and operational support teams. This position is responsible for coordinating and tracking service interruptions, supporting restoration activities, and ensuring timely responses during operational and emergency situations.

This is a high-responsibility, non-management role requiring strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure within a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.

Dispatchers work rotating shifts to maintain continuous coverage and may be required to support extended hours during major outages, storm events, or restoration activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate service calls, outage reports, and emergency response activities in real time.

  • Serve as the primary communication link between customers, field crews, engineers, and operational teams.

  • Log, track, and prioritize service requests and restoration activities using dispatch systems.

  • Maintain accurate records of outages, service calls, and operational updates.

  • Support coordination of field crews during restoration and emergency response efforts.

  • Communicate updates to internal teams to ensure efficient service restoration.

  • Maintain professionalism and customer service when interacting with customers and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Communications, Information Systems, Engineering background or recent graduate with Engineering Degree preferred.

  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in dispatch operations, customer service coordination, utilities operations, or a related environment.

  • Experience within utilities, logistics, emergency response, or operational coordination environments is highly desirable.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Proficiency with computer systems, dispatch software (Meridian/OMS preferred), and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with multiple teams.

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, extended hours, and support emergency or storm restoration activities when required.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when recording service information.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while managing calls, monitoring systems, and maintaining records.

  • Ability to handle high call volumes during outage events or emergency situations.

  • Ability to remain attentive and responsive during high-pressure situations.
